Peter Roseggers home in the forest
Who doesn’t know the popular Styrian poet Peter Rosegger? The stories about the knave out of the forest have fascinated generations and still today an impressive certificate about the life of Rosegger that was full of privations is existent. Several memorial places can be found in the poet’s homeland.
House of Rosegger’s birth
The first 17 years of his life Peter Roesegger has lived in the house of his birth, the farmyard „Kluppeneggerhof“ that is 1.150 meters above the sea. Due to enormous debts the house was sold in 1868. In 1927 it was bought by the country Styria and was totally renovated and furnished with ist original furniture. You can reach the house of Rosegger’s birth within a short walk with the school in the forest as a starting point.
School in the forest
Due to a fund-raiser in 1902 it was possible for Rosegger to build the school in the forest that enabled kids who were living in the Alps to go to their first educational establishment. Even today you can visit the class room in ist original condition.
Cottage/ Rosegger-museum
In 1877 Peter Rosegger had established his cottage in Krieglach according to his plans and conceptions. At the 26th of June in 1918 he died over there.
